Final assignment

I completed and submitted the final assignment by the deadline. I did good work -  I like how the assignment turned out. It was more work than I expected (it took a little longer than I expected). I based my expectations on the fairly short description/requirements for the assignment. It turned out that there were were quite a few challenges.

One challenge: some of the results were "strange" and I took my time interpreting them. For example, in one of the tables/output, there was no value for a variable because it was "redundant." Another challenge: I ended up with a long paper - over the page limit the professor likes. It was much longer. I removed lots of pages with SPSS output. I tried to include only the important diagrams/charts and tables (I liked quite a few of them).

This blog helped with the write-up of Part B (of the assignment). A lot of the information was still "fresh in memory," but I could look back at the issues I encountered and my thoughts on the topics in the course.

It is the end of the course!! The time went by quickly. I hope I get a really good grade for the paper so that I get an A for the course.

Week 7 assignment submitted...starting on the final assignment

I completed and submitted the week 7 assignment by the deadline. The paper was much shorter than papers in prior weeks, but probably more interesting. I liked the topic: non-parametric tests. One of the journal articles I reviewed included models/simulations for special comparisons of parametric and non-parametric tests. That paper reminded me of my final project/paper for the MSF program at GWU. I did a lot of modeling for that paper.

It is the final week - week 8. The (final) week 8 assignment is not a signature assignment.

Week 6 assignment submitted

The week 6 assignment:

I am about to start working on the week 7 assignment. When I start this early, I usually complete on time (and maybe submit a better paper with more analysis, less errors, and so on).

The assignment:

Week 7: Apply Non-Parametric Tests
Instructions

You will submit one Word document. In the first part your assignment document, provide short answers to the following questions (250 words or less).

Part A. Questions about non-parametric procedures

What are the most common reasons you would select a non-parametric test over the parametric alternative?
Discuss the issue of statistical power in non-parametric tests (as compared to their parametric counterparts). Which type tends to be more powerful? Why?
For each of the following parametric tests, identify the appropriate non-parametric counterpart:
        Dependent t test
        Independent samples t test
        Repeated measures ANOVA (one-variable)
        One-way ANOVA (independent)
        Pearson Correlation

Part B. SPSS Assignment
In this part of the assignment you will perform the non-parametric version of the tests you used in Week 4. In each case, assume that you opted to use the non-parametric equivalent rather than the parametric test. Using the relevant data files from Assignment #4, complete the following tests and paste your results into a Word document:

    The non-parametric version of the dependent t test (use the SPSS dataset from Assignment #4, Part A);
The non-parametric version of the independent t test (use the SPSS dataset created in Assignment #4, Part B); and,
The non-parametric version of the single factor ANOVA (use the SPSS dataset in Assignment #4, Part C).

Your submittal should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts that are presented in the course and provide new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Where applicable your submittal should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards. Review APA Form and Style.

Be sure to adhere to Northcentral University's Academic Integrity Policy. View the Northcentral Academic Integrity Tutorial to refresh your knowledge of how to achieve academic integrity.

Upload your document and click the Submit to Dropbox button.

It will be the end of the course soon.

Assignment not yet submitted

I am a little late this week....disappointing because I like the time element in the research design (temporal design).  I will submit soon....

Week 5 assignment in progress...

This week the focus is on factorial ANOVA & ANCOVA. These are new topics (not covered in Statistics I). This may be the reason the assignment is "lighter" this week.

I finished running the required tests/tables/charts in SPSS a short while ago. I am now moving on to the write-up. I should finish the assignment by the deadline.
